Udupi: Former chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission K. Jayaprakash Hegde will join the Congress party today (March 12) at 4 pm at the KPCC office in Swains Road, Bangalore.

He is a strong aspirant for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency and there is every possibility that he will be announced as the candidate of the Congress party. Hegde himself confirmed that he is returning to the Congress party.
After winning from the Brahmavar constituency, he served as the first district in-charge minister of Udupi district and later joined the Congress and became a Member of Parliament after winning the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency by-election in 2012. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Congress party. In the subsequent development, he left the Congress party and joined the BJP. He was appointed as the chairman of the Backward Classes Commission when the BJP government was in power.
A position he continued to hold under the Congress Government. He recently submitted a report on the caste census to the government. Jayaprakash Hegde has now returned to the Congress fold.
