Karnataka Lokayukta Raids 13 officials at 60 places across the state

Karnataka Lokayukta officials have conducted raids on 60 locations associated with 13 government officials across the state on March 27.

According to sources, a team of more than 130 officers, including 13 SPs, 12 Deputy SPs, and 25 police inspectors, was conducting the raids. The raids were taking place in Bengaluru, Bidar, Ramanagara, Uttara Kannada, and Kalaburagi districts.

The sleuths were conducting raids at five locations on properties owned by the Chief Engineer of BBMP in Bengaluru.

The residence and properties of an executive engineer attached to the Water Resources Department in Kalaburagi, as well as three locations in Bidar, were also being raided. The residence of a Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) was also raided in Ramanagara district.

The raids were being conducted based on information gathered about the accumulation of wealth by officers disproportionate to their income. The Lokayukta is yet to issue an official statement regarding this matter.

PM Modi Congratulates Belgian Counterpart On successful hosting of the First Nuclear Energy Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation with Mr. Alexander De Croo, the Prime Minister of Belgian.

During the conversation, PM Modi extended his congratulations to PM De Croo on the successful hosting of the First Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels.

“Spoke to Belgium PM @alexanderdecroo. Congratulated him on the success of the First Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels. Exchanged views on strengthening bilateral ties; advancing India-EU Partnership under Belgian Presidency; and cooperation on regional and global issues,” PM Modi posted on X.

Belgian PM De Croo said that the two leaders discussed growing commercial relations between New Delhi and Brussels including in sectors of semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and green hydrogen. He also said that Belgium will send a royal trade mission to India.

“Called Prime Minister @narendramodito discuss the conflicts in #Ukraine & #Gaza and protecting shipping lanes in the Red Sea. We also talked about our growing commercial relations #semiconductors #pharmaceuticals #greenhydrogen and the upcoming royal trade mission to India,” the Belgian PM posted on X.

Both leaders reviewed the excellent relations between India and Belgium. They discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral partnership in diverse sectors, including trade, investment, clean technologies, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, green hydrogen, IT, defence, and ports, among others, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a release.

The two leaders affirmed their commitment to further bolster the India – EU Strategic Partnership under the ongoing Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The First Nuclear Energy Summit was held in Belgium on March 21.

Global leaders from more than 30 countries and the European Union (EU) met at the summit and emphasized the importance of using nuclear power to achieve energy security, climate goals and drive sustainable development.

Earlier in February, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his counterparts from Poland, Belgium, and Portugal on the sidelines of the Security Conference in Munich, Germany. In his meeting with the Belgian Foreign Minister, Hadja Lahbib, the EAM lauded the advancement in bilateral ties between India and Belgium.

“Good to meet FM of Belgium @hadjalahbib this morning in Munich. Glad to work with the Belgian Presidency of the EU, as well as in advancing our bilateral ties,” the EAM wrote.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police arrested and charged Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui, a stand-up comedian, along with 14 other people On March 26  for allegedly using tobacco-based hookah in a south Mumbai hookah club.

According to the details, Faruqui was booked under The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 or COTPA, 2003. The raid on the hookah bar was conducted on March 26 evening.

Faruqui was there at the hookah bar at the time of the raid. Later, he was penalised after his medical tests came back positive. The raid was conducted after the police received information about nicotine being used with tobacco products at the hookah parlour.

The police seized a total of Rs 4,400 and nine hookah pots, worth Rs 13,500, in the raid. Further investigations into the case were underway.

32-year-old Faruqui is popular as a comedian and rapper on YouTube. He was imprisoned for 35 days in 2021 for hurting Hindu religious sentiments.

Hassan: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has announced that his son, former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy will contest from state’s Mandya parliamentary seat as NDA candidate.

Deve Gowda told reporters on March 26 that the decision to field Kumaraswamy, who is also JD(S) state president, in Lok Sabha polls from the Mandya seat was taken amid mounting public demand. “People are demanding that Kumaraswamy should contest from Mandya. In the core committee meeting as well, all members suggested that he should contest from Mandya,” Deve Gowda said.

The former Chief Minister’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy had lost to independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh from Mandya in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The JD(S) supremo further said that the name of senior leader Mallesh Babu has been finalised from the Kolar seat.

Deve Gowda’s grandson and former Karnataka Minister H. D. Revanna’s son sitting JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna will be contesting as the NDA candidate from the Hassan seat.

Earlier in the day, Kumaraswamy in a media briefing indicated that he would contest from Mandya amid mounting public pressure on him.

Congress has fielded Venkatarame Gowda popularly known as ‘Star Chandru’ from the Mandya seat dominated by Vokkaligas. Star Chandru is a close associate of Deputy CM D.K.Shivakumar.
