The Youth died on the spot after his bike skidded off the road near Kota Masjid on National Highway 66. The deceased has been identified as Vikas Acharya (22), son of Suresh Acharya, a resident of Kota Manur. They were coming from Sastana towards Kota Manur at around 1:30 pm on April 22. A first-year law student surprised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with a garland made from free bus tickets. The gesture was seen as a way to express her gratitude towards Siddaramaiah for launching ‘Shakti’ guarantee scheme, one of the five key pre-poll promises of the Congress. Unveiled in June last year, the scheme offers free ride to women in non-luxury government buses within the state.
