Bengaluru: Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have joined hands with water mafia: R.Ashoka

Bengaluru: Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R.Ashoka on March 19 attacked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar over the drinking water crisis, saying that they have joined hands with the water mafia.

He said that both the CM and Deputy CM have completely failed to address the water crisis in Bengaluru city.

“It seems they have surrendered to the tanker mafia and joined hands with them. Half of the water tankers have not bothered to register, not even caring about the government order. Those tankers who have registered are not giving water for the price the government has fixed,” Ashoka said.

He said that the government is not making an honest attempt to solve the drinking water issue.

The government must initiate strict legal action against the tankers violating the government rule and not registered with authorities. Marshals should be appointed at all ward levels and monitor the movements of tankers, Ashoka said.

“The helpline established has failed. A call centre will have to be established with a private agency with the capacity of a minimum of 200 lines and respond to the woes of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on March 18 held a high-level meeting on the drinking water crisis in the state.

“There is enough water stored in the Cauvery and Kabini to last till the end of June,” the Chief Minister said.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP on March 19 criticised the Congress government over “politics of appeasement” following a social media post by the brother of a man accused of attacking a shop owner for allegedly playing Hanuman Chalisa.

Taking it to social media, the Karnataka BJP slammed the “fundamentalist elements” treading the same path as that of the Congress leaders in the state who claim that “jail today, bail tomorrow”.

While there were widespread protests condemning the attack on Mukesh in Bengaluru’s Nagarathpet for allegedly playing Hanuman Chalisa, the brother of Suleiman, one of the accused persons, put up a post that said: “Aaj jail kal bail fir wohi khel.” (Jail today, bail tomorrow, and the same game after that).

“This clearly shows that the ‘fundamentalists’ in Karnataka think that no matter what they do, they will be protected by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar,” the state BJP said.

“The Congress government is solely responsible for such developments. Action must be taken to ensure that the accused don’t come out of jail anytime soon,” it added.

The Karnataka Police on Tuesday detained and released Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and BJP MLA Suresh Kumar with scores of Hindu activists and BJP workers, who were protesting to condemn the assault on a shop owner for allegedly playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’.

Tension prevailed within the Halasurugate police station limits following the incident.

Hindu activists and BJP workers gathered in Nagarathpet and started playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ even as police tried to take Mukesh into custody.

BJP MLA Suresh Kumar condemned the police action and asked them as to why they were taking the victim into their custody?

When the state police did not budge and tried to take Mukesh away, the MLA Suresh Kumar came in front of the police vehicle and protested. However, the BJP MLA was taken into custody along with Shobha Karandlaje, who also arrived at the spot, to take part in the protest.

The Hindu activists alleged that instead of real culprits, the police have arrested those who are not connected to the incident.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taunted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by going to the extent of terming him a “weak PM” and asserted that he is a “strong CM” unlike the PM.

Responding to Modi’s criticism at the BJP public meeting in Shivamogga where he deriding the Congress party for having “super CM and shadow CM,” Siddaramaiah pointed out that Congress party does not have a super or shadow CM but only one CM while the prime minister is a “weak PM, who could not take action against former BJP deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa.”

“Modi is a weak PM, who could not take any action against Eshwarappa, who has raised the banner of revolt against denial of BJP ticket to his son Kantesh from Haveri and has openly declared his intention to contest against the BJP strongman B.S Yediyurappa’s son and sitting Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra,” Siddaramaiah said, adding that, Eshwarappa’s defiance and refusal to participate in the rally addressed by Modi in Shivamogga indicates that “Modi is a weak PM.”

The CM reminded the prime minister of his constant boasts that he has a “5” chest’’ while his own BJP partymen are hailing him as a “Vishwaguru” and mentioned that he has proved that he (Modi) is a “weak PM.”

Siddaramaiah went on to taunt BJP and Modi by pointing out that the former BJP CM Yediyurappa, who is considered as the tallest Lingayat leader in BJP, had attacked him and had revolted against him. “You fell at his (Yediyurappa) feet and brought him back and have now made him member of BJP parliamentary board, the highest decision-making body, in the BJP. Does this not show that you yourselves admit to being a weak PM?” he asked.

The senior Congress leader mentioned that half a dozen leaders in BJP have risen in revolt against prime minister’s leadership. “Your own party leaders are squabbling in the public and fighting among one another. Nobody responds to your own appeals. Some of these (disgruntled BJP leaders) are in contact with the Congress party,” he said and pointed out that “indiscipline is rampant in BJP, which was supposed to be the most disciplined party.”

“Isn’t this proof of your being a weak PM?” asked the chief minister and said Eshwarappa stayed off Modi’s Shivamogga rally and has been pouring venom against your leadership and Yediyurppa constantly.

“This certainly proves that you are a weak PM,” said Siddaramaiah. “Ours is a party with internal democracy. There are several persons who are eminently qualified to become chief minister,” he said and asked Modi: “What about your own BJP, which boasts of being the party with the largest membership in the entire world? But it is regrettable that there is not a single person capable of becoming PM. You are not allowing anybody to grow in stature or rise up the rank and file because you are afraid of losing power. I am a stong CM and not a weak PM like you,” he added.
