I am hopeful to resolve seat sharing arrangement with JD(S), rebels: Karnataka BJP President

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP President B.Y.Vijayendra on March 19 said that he is hopeful to resolve the seat-sharing arrangement with the alliance partner JD (S) and rebel BJP leaders.

Vijayendra said that he had a discussion with BJP high command regarding JD (S)’s announcement to contest for three seats, following which he had discussion with former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy.

“I have confidence that the high command will ensure that everything is sorted out smoothly and decisions will be taken in such a manner that everyone will be happy,”

He said that differences in any alliance are natural. “It is natural to have differences. BJP and JD (S) leaders are in discussion regarding the seat-sharing arrangement. I am confident that everything will be sorted out. JD (S) and BJP alliance will continue smoothly,” he stated.

On former BJP leader and Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda joining Congress, he said that he is confident that former Sadananda Gowda will remain in BJP.

Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has announced to contest as an independent candidate against the BJP candidate from Shivamogga B.Y. Raghavendra.

“Eshwarappa is a senior leader. He is misled by false information leading to the present development. I still believe that after learning the truth he will realise and come back to BJP,” he said.

On former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar getting a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election, Vijayendra said that the issue will be discussed by the party high command and their decision will be final.”

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on March 19 said that the Congress will split in three months after the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and its impact will be visible on the Siddaramaiah-led state government.

“Due to internal squabbles, the state government will not last long,” the BJP leader said.

Talking to reporters on March 19, he said the sitting MP from the Gadag-Haveri constituency, Shivakumar Udasi, has done a lot of development work and implemented the Central government’s schemes effectively.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will surely become the PM for the third time. The overall response has been good in the Gadag-Haveri Lok Sabha constituency,” the former Karnataka CM said.

Asked if he was contesting the election in a half-hearted manner in the Gadag-Haveri seat, Bommai said “such a question does not arise when the party’s high command gives instructions”.

He said he would respect his opponent and not take anyone lightly.

Bengaluru: The police seized explosive material from a vacant land near a private school in Bengaluru on March 19.

The development has raised concerns in view of the March 1 Bengaluru cafe blast which was carried out by using a low intensity improvised explosive device.

The police found gelatine sticks, detonators and other explosive substances. According to police, the substances were kept in a tractor parked at an empty site near the school.

After the tip off, the Bellandur police rushed to the spot and seized the explosive substances. Sources said the preliminary investigation suggested that the seized material were usually used in exploding boulders at construction sites and quarrying sites.

The police have taken up a suo motu case and are investigating the matter. Several schools in Bengaluru had received a series of bomb threats through email recently. Not taking any chances, the authorities have taken serious note of the incident and were probing the case.

Bengaluru: Even as PM Narendra Modi is arriving in Shivamogga for the BJP election campaign on March 18, CM Siddaramaiah trained his guns on BJP, Modi and B S Yediyurappa and pointedly asked why farmers of Karnataka must support BJP.

Attacking senior BJP leader Yediyurappa, the CM has asked the Prime minister how he can ask the farmers and people to vote for BJP and whether his conscience permits him to ask for votes to elect Yediyurappa’s son, B Y Raghavendra, knowing fully well that innocent farmers were killed in police firing when they asked for fertilisers.

The CM said he has no problem in welcoming Modi in Shivamogga, the cradle of farmers’ movement, and reminded the prime minister that Yediyurappa had promised to waive farm loans before the assembly elections and had the audacity to tell the farmers, who reminded him of BJP’s promise on farm loan waiver, that his government does not have note printing machines.

When farmers were agitating over fertiliser supplies in Haveri, the Yediyurappa government had taken the lives of innocent farmers by opening fire, he said.

Siddaramaiah asked why the farmers in the State must support BJP when the party had refused to honour the promises in respect of irrigation projects in the State and demanded the release of funds for drought relief and increase the number of man-days under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee scheme from the present 100 to 150 days to prevent migration of farmers in search of jobs due to scarcity conditions.

The chief minister said the BJP in the 2018 election manifesto had promised to waive farm loans up to Rs 1 lac in all nationalised banks in the first cabinet meeting after the party comes to power. But once in power, the party had betrayed farmers by forgetting its promise to farmers

“Karnataka has been reeling under drought conditions and the government has declared 226 taluks in the State as drought affected six months ago and the government had requested immediate release of Rs 18,177 crore as drought relief as per Central norms. I have written several letters and have personally met you and Home Minister Amit Shah. But not a single naya paise has been released by the Centre. Why this hatred against Karnataka’s farmers?’’ he asked.

The chief minister said the Centre had allocated Rs 5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra irrigation project in its budget one year ago but nothing has been released so far. Mahadayi and Mekedatu projects are languishing due to non-cooperation from the Centre. The Modi regime abandoned the state in the Cauvery issue by not framing the distress sharing formula.

Siddaramaiah pointed out that Modi regime had hurriedly passed the three controversial farm loans which in effect handed over the agriculture sector to Adani, Ambani and other capitalists. Over 750 farmers lost their lives due to police atrocities, ill-health and vagaries of monsoon.

“Will you guarantee justice to the farming community?” asked Siddarmaiah to the prime minister.

DV Sadananda Gowda, who had said that he will not contest the election this time, was requested by some BJP leaders to contest the election. After this, he also claimed to be a ticket aspirant.

Sadananda Gowda is upset after announcing the ticket to Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje. Gowda, who complained that ‘because he missed the ticket, it was unfair to the Okkaliga community’, has now said that he will announce his decision in a press conference on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 18 launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Shakti’ remark and said he worships it in all forms.

“The INDIA bloc, in their manifesto, said that their fight is against ‘Shakti’. For me, every mother, daughter & sister is a form of ‘Shakti’. I worship them in the form of ‘Shakti’. I am the worshiper of Bharat Mata,” PM Modi said during a public rally in Telangana’s Jagtial.

Hitting out at the opposition INDIA bloc, he said that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is a battle between ‘Shakti’ supporters and those who are fighting against it.

“I am the worshiper of Bharat Mata… Their (INDIA bloc’s) manifesto is to finish ‘Shakti’, and I accept the challenge. I am willing to sacrifice my life for Nari Shakti,” PM Modi said. During a public rally in Mumbai to mark the conclusion of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday raised concerns about EVMS, using the word ‘Shakti’ to emphasize the opposition’s fight against it.

“There is a word ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against a Shakti. The question is, what is that Shakti? The soul of the King is in the EVM. This is true. The soul of the King is in the EVM and in every institution of the country, in ED, CBI, and the Income Tax department,” he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed him and the INDIA bloc for their hatred against Hinduism and Hindu beliefs. The Prime Minister claimed that the support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is increasing every passing day.

“The support for BJP is increasing continuously, and the public gathering here in Jagtial is testimony to that. As the voting day nears there is a BJP wave in Telangana. The whole country is saying, “more than 400 (seats for NDA) on June 4 (counting day),” he added.

During his address, PM Modi also said that Congress crushed the dreams of Telangana, while BRS misused people’s faith.

Taking a jibe at BRS leader K Kavitha, who was recently arrested in connection with the liquor scam, PM Modi said that BRS has been ruthlessly looting Telangana since its formation and now, Congress has made the state its ‘personal ATM’ and uses people’s hard-earned money to fund its divisive policies.
