50 th year mass marriage celebrations at Dharmasthala.
183 couples entered into a holy matrimony.
Dharmasthala: On the evening of April 27 th at 6.50 p.m ; 183 couples tied the knot in the 50th mass marriage celebrations at Amritavarshini hall at Dharmasthala.
The couple’s were given all the materials required for the ceremony in the morning and in the evening brought in a grand procession to the wedding venue.Here they were welcomed by the Heggade couple and his family and the chief guests for the evening Minister R Ashok and Golden star Ganesh and MLA Harish Punja.
The grooms were given mangalasutra which they tied on the neck of the bride amid the holy sounds of prayers and the sweet sound of shehani.
Addressing the gathering Dharmadikari of Dharmasthala Sri D Veerendra Heggade said that the mass marriage started in 1972 has completed 50 years and was primarily started to help the less privileged to conduct weddings without the harassment of dowry and unwanted expenditure.Weddings here are a happy affair were two beautiful souls join together to lead life as one with love and respect for eachother with out burdening the families in debt.Moreover 60 couples have opted for intercaste marriage setting aside religious norms.
Two couples Pakira Poojary and Somnath Shetty who had began their matrimonial journey here way back in 1972 were honoured on this occasion.
