Chennai: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the toss and elected to bat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the opening match of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It won’t be easy for RCB to beat Chennai at this venue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian award ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 22 received Bhutan’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo,’ the first foreign Head of the Government to receive the honour.

The award has been conferred to Prime Minister Modi in recognition of “his outstanding contribution to the growth of India-Bhutan relations and for his distinguished service to the Bhutanese nation and people.”

“Honoured to be conferred with ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ Award by Bhutan. I dedicate it to 140 crore Indians,” Modi posted on X soon after.

Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck awarded the ‘Order of the Druk Glyalpo’ to Prime Minister Modi.

The announcement for the honour was made by the King of Bhutan during the 114th National Day celebrations on December 17, 2021.

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi received it during his two-day State visit, his third since he took over as the prime minister in 2014.

A statement from the Indian Embassy in 2021, when the announcement was made, said, “As per ranking and precedence established, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo was instituted as the decoration for lifetime achievement and is the pinnacle of the honor system in Bhutan, taking precedence over all orders, decorations and medals.”

In 2020, Modi received the ‘Legion of Merit by the US government’ award of the US Armed Forces and in 2019, Russia conferred its highest civilian honour ‘The order of St. Andrew’ award on Modi.

Earlier in the day, hours after he arrived in the Himalayan nation, Modi said he was grateful to the Bhutanese people for according to him a “memorable welcome” to their beautiful country and hoped that India-Bhutan friendship “keeps scaling new heights.”

Modi’s visit seeks to further cement India’s unique and enduring relations with Bhutan as part of the country’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy.

Hiriyadka: Accident between tipper and bus; Many are injured

Hiriyadka: A tipper, which tried to avoid hitting a bike, collided with a private bus, The tipper driver and the bike rider were seriously injured. The incident took place at Onthibettu near Atradi.

Due to the severity of the accident, the tipper driver got stuck and was rescued by locals and admitted to Manipal Hospital. The biker was injured in the accident. Not only that, the bus passengers also suffered minor injuries.

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP on March 22 attacked the state government alleging that it is trying to hush up the female foeticide case.

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R.Ashoka said that it is shameful that the Health Department is hand-in-glove with gender-determining tests and female foeticide mafia network.

“Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao is behind the officers who are pressurising the investigating officers not to submit the report. These officers — attached to the District Health and Family Welfare Department — are trying to delay the submission of the report,” Ashok charged.

After these developments, it is evident that the Congress government had succumbed to the pressure of invisible hands to hush up the female foeticide network, Ashoka stated.

“I had demanded a probe by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) and also demanded the formation of a special court to deliver quicker justice during the winter session,” he said.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, women empowerment can’t be achieved by guarantee programmes like Shakthi and Griha Laxmi. You have to show your commitment by exposing the network which is taking away lives of female children before they come into this world,” he said.

Bengaluru Rural District Family Welfare officer Dr S.R. Manjunath had filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday alleging that he is pressurised not to submit the report.

The authorities recently busted a female foeticide case in Hosakote and Nelamangala towns located close to Bengaluru. The officer claimed that the District Health Officer had warned him not to submit reports against private hospitals.

In the complaint, the officer claimed that there was a threat to his life and if anything happened to his life, the District Health Officer should be held responsible.
