*Kishore Shetty Mangalore: The Death of Shivananda Kerkera:*
Kishore D Shetty, President of Tulu Drama Artists’ Association, said that the breakup of veteran playwright Sahithi Shivananda Kerkera has caused a major loss to the field of theater and literature. He was speaking at the Shivananda Karkhera Nadi Namana program held on Thursday at the Maps College of the city by the Tulu Parishad and Tulu Drama Artists Union.
Kishore Shetty said that Karkhera, who had a keen concern for the well-being of the playwrights, was acting as a fountain of enthusiasm even in his youth. Addressing the gathering, Tulu Parishad Honorary President Dr Prabhakar Neer Marg said, “Kerkera was a committed member of the Tulu Academy and was the primary motivator for the Tulu Drama Festival by the Academy.
Speaking on the occasion, Lakshman Kumar Mallur, general secretary of the Tulu Drama Artists Union, recalled that Kerkera was responsible for building and owning the bank during his tenure as Gokarnanath Bank president. Speaking at the event, Swarna Sundar, another honorary president of the Tulu Parishad, said that Kerkera, who has worked immensely in the field of literature and culture, has left untold memories.
Lakshman, a senior theater worker, described Shivananda Kerkera as a generous donor and a man of integrity and commitment to drama, organization and a disciplined life-style. Tulu Parishad general secretary Bennett Ammanna said Karkare’s collection of manuscripts should be a record of achievement. Tulu M.A. Student Harish spoke and Tulu M.A. The students were impressed by Shivananda Karkhera’s name when he was mentioned in the text theater, saying that as a senior, he was friendly with all the students and was a mentor. Chandrashekhar Shetty, Co-ordinator of Samskara Bharati Organization, Dr. Vasudeva Belle, Vice President of Tulu Parishad, MS Rao, Senior Organizer, Pradeep Alva, Treasurer of Wellness Society of Drama Artists, Mohan Koppatti, Treasurer, Raghu Idkidu, Author The ceremony was attended by Suresh Shetty, Tulu Parishat Treasurer Subodhya Alva, Lion’s Club’s Taranath Shetty Bolar, Kodial Bail Lions Club President Gokul Kadri, Tulu Academy former members Sudha Nagesh, Shobha Shetty, Dhan Pal and Raghava Dhawan of Shanthava Raghu Nagesh Devadiga, Harish Shaktinagar, Madhu Suratkal, Dhanpal Shettigar, Kishore Shetty were also present.
