Mangaluru, Sep 22: In tune with demand made by sections of the people, the city corporation was considering a proposal to rename Ladyhill circle after philosopher and reformer, Sri Narayana Guru. It is learnt that the city corporation, after encountering resentment and objections from many, has decided to keep the proposal pending for the time being.

The city corporation council had proposed to make renaming of the circle as part of its agenda for the general session of the council proposed to be held on Tuesday September 22. But the city corporation has been receiving an array of objections besides pressure from many sections of the society relating to the proposal to change the circle’s name. As such, the city corporation has dropped the proposal to change the name for the present, it is learnt.

Premananda Shetty, veteran BJP corporator who happens to be the chief whip of the council, clarified that the proposal to change the name of Ladyhill circle will not be part of the agenda of the council meeting.

2005 ನೇ ಇಸವಿಡ್ , ಮೇರ್ ಆನೆಗುಡ್ಡೆದ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿಯಾದ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಪಡೆಯೊನ್ವೆರ್ , ಬೊಕ್ಕ ಮರಿಯಾಶ್ರಮದ ಪರ್ಮನೂರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿದ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ್ ಸೇವೆ ಸಂದಾವೆರ್ .

ಮೆರ್ನ ಮರಣ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಐತಾರ ಬೈಯ್ಯಗ್ 4 ಗಂಟೆಗ್ ಆರ್ನ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಕೆಲ್ಂಬೆಟ್‌ಡ್ ನಡಪರೆ ಉಂಡು.

Mangaluru: Principal of St Sebastian College Fr Edwin Mascarenhas passes away.

Fr Edwin Cyril Mascarenhas, principal of St Sebastian PU and Degree College, Permannur, passed away on Sunday September 20 after a brief illness. He was 57.

Born on July 9, 1963 to Maurice and Faustine Mascarenhas, Fr Edwin was a native of Kelmbet.

He was ordained priest on May 7, 1991.

He served as assistant parish priest of Shirva, Omzoor and Bendore parishes between 1991 and 1997, before taking charge as parish priest of Petri.

He was appointed headmaster of St Joseph institution in Bidar in 1999, and served as its principal from 2001 to 2003, before being appointed principal of St Antony PU College, Naravi.

In 2005, he was appointed parish priest of Anegudde, and later served as principal of Permannur College, Mariashram.

The funeral will be held at his home parish Kelmbet on Sunday at 4 pm, sources said.
