’10 years like appetizer’: Prime Minister Modi says ‘main course’ to unveil in 3rd term

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 5 tore into the INDIA bloc over corruption cases that were reported during the Congress-led UPA government and listed out the work done by the BJP-led NDA in the past ten years.

Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Churu, PM Modi said the developmental work carried out by him in the past 10 years is just like an “appetizer” and that the “main course is yet to come”.

“I want to tell you that all we’ve done till now is just a trailer. These days, when we go to big hotels to eat food, they first bring a few appetizers…so what Modi has done (till now) is an appetizer. The main course is yet to come. We have to take the country forward,” the Prime Minister said. Highlighting the Centre’s decision to execute air strikes and surgical strikes, PM Modi said before his government came to power, security forces were held back from taking decisive action in the interest of national security.

“When I came to Churu on 26th February 2019, at that time the country had carried out an air strike in Balakot. We had taught a lesson to the terrorists. At that time I had said I would not let Mother India bow down,” said the Prime Minister.
He said even enemies know that it’s “New India,” which would enter its territory to retaliate (“Aaj dushman ko bhi pata hai yeh Modi hain, yeh naya Bharat hai, yeh naya Bharat ghar mein ghus kar maarta hain”).

PM Modi slammed the Congress and its allies for seeking proof of Balakot air strikes.

“When our army carried out surgical strikes and air strikes, Congress and the people of this ‘Ghamandia’ alliance were asking for proof. Dividing the country and insulting our army is the identity of the Congress Party,” he added. Hitting out at the opposition’s Ramlila rally in Delhi, he said INDIA bloc leaders are not campaigning for the upcoming elections but against the crackdown on corruption.

PM Modi also claimed that Congress and the INDIA bloc have their “own interests” and that they have nothing to do with the welfare of the poor, Dalit, and underprivileged.

The Prime Minister reiterated his “guarantee” poll plank and recounted his welfare schemes and how they have been beneficial for the poor and women.

“Rajasthan is an example of how Modi’s guarantees have been fulfilled. I had given the guarantee to my mothers and sisters that gas cylinders under the Ujjwala Yojana would be made cheaper and I fulfilled this guarantee. I had guaranteed the youth that an investigation would be conducted against the Congress (exam) paper leak industry. This guarantee has also been fulfilled,” the PM said. PM took a dig at Congress claiming that the grand old party has advised its units to remain mum on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir issue.

“I came to know that Congress has issued an advisory and asked all its units to remain silent on the issue of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. ‘Unko lagne laga hai ki agar Ram ka naam liya pata nahi kab Ram-Ram ho jaye’ (they (Congress) think taking Lord Ram’s name would decimate them),” said the PM.

The Bihar Police have put in place a multi-tier security cover at the venue and its surroundings ahead of the Prime Minister’s rally. BJP ally Chirag Paswan, who has handed over the mantle to brother-in-law Arun Bharti after having represented Jamui, a reserved seat, two times on the trot, has been effusive in his praise for the prime minister for the gesture.”It is a matter of pride for Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and the people of Jamui that the prime minister has agreed to launch his campaign in Bihar from the constituency. We are committed to helping him achieve the target of 400-plus seats for the NDA, including all the 40 in Bihar,” said Paswan. Jamui is among the four Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the other three being Aurangabad, Gaya and Nawada, which will go to polls in the first phase on April 19.

The NDA in Bihar also includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which is contesting 16 seats, one less than the BJP, and former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha, which will fight Katakat.

Chirag Paswan’s party is fielding candidates in five seats, including Hajipur, his late father Ram Vilas Paswan’s pocket borough, where he is trying his luck this time.

New Delhi: Claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah refused to meet him in the national capital, rebel BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, K.S.Eshwarappa, said that he has not decided to withdraw his decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as an Independent candidate.

Speaking to reporters here, Eshwarappa said, “I was not able to meet the Home Minister. Also, I have not decided to withdraw my decision to contest as an Independent candidate.”

“The Home Minister had asked me to come to Delhi. That’s why I came here. However, after reaching Delhi, I got a call from his office informing me that Amit Shah was not available for a meeting. This means there are no qualms with me consenting as an Independent candidate. This also means that B.Y. Raghavendra, the BJP candidate from Shivamogga, should get defeated.” Raghavendra is the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

“The latest developments indicate that I should go ahead and contest the elections against Raghavendra. I will contest the elections against the BJP. And with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, I will win the polls,” Eshwarappa claimed.

Eshwarappa is reportedly miffed with the party’s decision to deny a ticket to his son K.E. Kanthesh to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Shivamogga. Earlier, the party had also denied a ticket to Eshwarappa to contest the Assembly polls in Karnataka held last year.

Eshwarappa has also vowed to get B.Y. Vijayendra removed from the post of state BJP chief. Both Vijayendra and Raghavendra are Yediyurappa’s sons.

Eshwarappa is the senior-most BJP leader in the state who built the party from scratch in Karnataka along with Yediyurappa and others.
