ಮೈಸೂರು: ಮೈಸೂರು-ಕೊಡಗು ಲೋಕಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿ ಯದುವೀರ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣದತ್ತ ಚಾಮರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರ್ ಆರ್ ಬುಧವಾರ ನಾಮಪತ್ರ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಾಯೆರ್.
Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha Constituency BJP candidate Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraj Wodeyar along with his party leaders and supporters filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.
The procession started in front of the fort Anjaneyaswamy temple in front of the palace. From there, the procession proceeded through Nazarabad to the new district collector’s office in Siddhartha Nagar.
JDS Legislature Party leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, Core Committee President GT Deve Gowda, BJP State Unit President B.Y. Vijayendra, Constituency Election Officer Dr.C. N. Ashwathtanarayan, MP Pratap Singh, MLA T.S. Srivatsa, JDS MLA G.D Harish Gowda, former MLA K. G. Bopaiah supported him.
Traffic jams were witnessed on major roads in the city including K.R.Circle, Hardinje Circle and Sayyaji Rao Road in the wake of the procession.

Kundapur: The election vigilance flying squad conducted a raid on a convention organized by K S Eshwarappa, a rebel candidate contesting after being denied a ticket by the BJP. The squad received a specific tip-off and swiftly moved in to confiscate biriyani that was being prepared to distribute to approximately 2000 workers gathered at the event.
The biriyani, intended to serve as lunch for the party workers attending the convention, was nearly ready when the officials of the flying squad intervened. Despite the anticipation of the workers and the near-completion of the meal, the Election Commission vigilance squad refused to permit the distribution of the biriyani.
Disappointed by the turn of events, the party workers, who had patiently awaited the meal, eventually dispersed without partaking in the biriyani.

Mangalore: Model code of conduct: Over 12,000 litres of liquor seized
ನೀತಿ ಸಂಹಿತೆ ಜಾರಿ ಆಯಿನ ದಿನರ್ದ್ ಎಪ್ರಿಲ್ 1 ಮುಟ್ಟ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಡ್ 41,90,665 ರೂ. ಮೌಲ್ಯದ 12,844 ಲೀಟರ್ ಮದ್ಯನ್ ವಶಕ್ಕ್ ದೆತೊಂದೆರ್.
Mangalore: The authorities have seized 12,844 litres of liquor worth Rs.41,90,665 in Dakshina Kannada district up to April 1 from the date of enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.
Apart from liquor 15.5kg drugs valued at Rs.8,69,950 have been seized. As many as 243 FIRs have been registered including cases for violation of excise rules.

Puttur: Fire breaks out at electronic appliances warehouse

Puttur: A massive fire broke out at the warehouse belonging to an electronic appliances warehouse, located near Darbe in Puttur on April 2. The blaze engulfed the premises, resulting in the destruction of crores worth of goods.
The fire rapidly spread throughout the warehouse, consuming the stored goods with crackling flames. Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene to tackle the blaze, launching a coordinated effort to extinguish the fire.
The Puttur city police, in collaboration with fire suppression units, actively worked to bring the situation under control and prevent any further damage. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Mirabai Chanu, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, has taken a significant step toward securing her spot at the Paris Olympics. Chanu, who picked up a thigh injury in the Asian Games 2023 finished third in the women’s 49kg Group B event at the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand.
The Reigning Commonwealth Games champion registered a total weight lift of 184 kg (81 kg in snatch and 103 kg in clean and jerk) and qualified in this tournament. Mirabai has now met the Paris Olympic qualification criteria, which requires two compulsory events and three other finals.
Chanu’s performance places her second in the women’s 49kg Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR), The official announcement regarding her qualification will be made after the World Cup concludes, once the OQR is updated. The top 10 lifters from each weight class will secure their spots at the Paris Olympics.
Despite not being at her peak due to the hip tendonitis injury she suffered during the Asian Games in September, Chanu managed to execute five clean lifts. Her snatch and clean and jerk lifts fell short of her personal best efforts. Chanu’s personal best came in the Asian Championships in 2021, where India’s No. 1 Weightlifter in the 49 Kg category lifted an impressive 88 kg in snatch and even set a then-world record of 119 kg in clean and jerk.
The comeback of a 29-year-old weightlifter from Manipur marks the end of a tense period for her. She had to be carried off in her previous competition due to an injury and Her return to competitive sports bodes well for India, particularly considering that she is the sole Indian athlete competing in weightlifting.

Bengaluru: FIR against Deputy CM Shivakumar over derogatory posts against BJP leaders

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Congress leader B.R. Naidu in connection with derogatory posts against BJP leaders on social media.
The FIR is lodged at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru, police said on March 1. The Congress party had allegedly twisted BJP’s campaign posters and carried out a “derogatory” campaign on social media.
Police have filed an FIR against Shivakumar, who is also the president of Karnataka Congress, and B.R. Naidu under the IPC Sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult, giving provocation), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 464 (making of false document).
Yogendra Hodaghatta, former secretary of BJP Legal Cell, had filed a private petition before the Special Court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru over “derogatory” posters by the Congress party.
He claimed that the content of the BJP’s campaign poster was twisted and presented to the public by the Congress. The court had ordered an investigation on the charges of forgery and spreading hatred between two groups.
