Manipal, May 24: Doctors from the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital in Manipal have successfully conducted an endoscopy treatment for a disease known as achalasia cardia (POEM) for the first time in this part of Karnataka.
A 64-year-old patient who had been suffering from esophageal problems such as food swallowing and leavening since 2016, recently visited the hospital. He was struggling to sleep. Dr. Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of the hospital, said that the diagnosis of achalasia cardia was detected when she underwent a special examination called psychometry led by Shiran Shetty.
