Bengaluru: Rain fury back in state – Yellow alert sounded in coastal region

Rains are back in the state. Most parts of the state received rains since the afternoon of Saturday, October 10.
In Bengaluru areas like Jayanagar,Basavanagudi, Electronic City, Majestic, Malleshwaram,
Rajajinagar, Banashankari and Padmanabhanagar received heavy downpour and roads got converted into mini ponds.Coastal regions of Mangaluru, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts also received rain with thunder on the evening and night of Saturday. Most regions of Malnad also received rains. Rains are going to lash the state for the next three days. A yellow alert is declared in the coastal region of Karnataka and district administration is instructed to take precautionary measures in case of floods.

Mangalore: The new Yakshagana Fair will be launched by the Goddess of Jnana Shakti Subramanya Swamy Deva near Mulki. According to a source, a total of 20 artists will join the backstage and assistants, including Akshay Marnad, Rajesh Nitte, Satish Nainadu, Sandesh Mandara, Ujire Narayana, Vellipaddi Mohan and Lokesh Muchuru. Due to the time limit of Yakshagana, the artists of Bappanadu Mela are likely to take part in the event. The rest are Patla Satish, Prafullachandra Nelyadi, Purnesha, Prashant Wagenadu and Guruprasad Bolinjadka. The Devi Mahatme episode is well-known to Patlar at the Kateel Fair where artists are set to perform at the end of November. There is no doubt about success.

Bengaluru: Child right commission recommends resuming classes, exam-free year

Bengaluru, Oct 10: Karnataka State Child Rights Protection Commission has recommended to the government to take a decision to open schools, declare 2020-21 as exam-free year, and mandatorily provide high quality face masks to all the children.
“In the light of the COVID situation, classes should be handled in a good way, keeping in mind health requirements of the children. During the exam-free year, the state education research and training department should prepare the class-wise learning routine for different classes. Initially, higher or lower primary government schools with less than 30 children should be opened. For the initial two weeks, they should function half a day. Schools with higher student strength should be run on a shift system,” it has recommended.The commissioner has expressed the apprehension that if no decision is taken to reopen the schools, the evils of child marriage, child labour system, and child trafficking may crop up. It said that the schools should arrange for preliminary meetings with parents and school development and monitoring committees.

Ladyhill Circle rename Sticker campaign from Biruwer Kudla.

Udupi: A campaign has been launched in Udupi demanding that Narayana Guru be nominated for Mangalore Ladyhill Circle. The Auto Drivers’ Association and the Brewer’s Kudla jointly launched a sticker campaign at the Medicare Auto Station. Kishore Poojary, Chairman of Biruwar Kudla Udupi Unit, Secretary Yogesh and Treasurer Rajesh were run by stickers for autos. B. Shetty, Secretary Vithal Jattan and other officials were involved in the campaign.

Talented athlete Lavina makes it to World Masters Games, seeks financial aid to participate.

Lavina Rodrigues, a talented athlete who won a number of medals in masters games in state and national level is selected to participate in the upcoming World Masters Game – 2021. But constraints have denied her possibilities of participating in the big event which is scheduled to be held at Kansai, Japan from May 14 to 30, 2021.
After considering the performance of the athletes in the recently held 3rd National Masters Games-2020 which was held at Vadodara, the national master’s games federation selection committee finalized Lavina’s name and sent her the confirmation letter and asked to participate in the international event.Lavina has bagged a total of three silver and one gold medals in state level championship. She secured one gold, two silver medals in national level championship. 200m, 400m and 1500m are her favourite sprint events and for the past four years she has been continuously winning medals in these events. She contested in the nation-level competitions paying from her own resources.Lavina requests all generous readers to kindly help to make her dream a reality.She hopes makes it to this mega event and also hoping to go through it with excellence. Mangaluru: Former chairman of Karnataka Bank Ananthakrishna no more

Mangaluru, Oct 11: Former chairman and CEO of Karnataka Bank Ltd Ananthakrishna passed away on Sunday October 11. He was 74.
He worked in different capacities at the operational level as well as management level, and was appointed chairman and CEO in the year 2000. He served in this capacity till 2009, after which he continued as non-executive chairman of the bank. He retired in 2016.He began his career as a teacher at Deepika high school, Modankap, before serving as lecturer at Manipal Institute of Technology. He then joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bangaluru as Junior Programmer before joining Karnataka Bank Ltd in 1971.Ananthakrishna also served as honorary secretary of Indian Banks’ Association and president of the
Bankers’ Club, Mangaluru.He was honoured with a number of awards, including ‘PR Person of the Year – 2002’ awarded by Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Mangaluru-Manipal chapter, KK Pai National Banking Award, ‘Outstanding Manager – 2004’ by Mangalore Management Association.

Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister, S. Suresh Kumar, said that stating that opening schools is the last thing on his mind as he considers himself more of a guardian of children who are studying in schools across the state.Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar have clarified time and again publicly that there is no plan to open schools. Such being the case, I appeal to the people not to spread misleading rumours on this issue.Moreover, decisions like opening schools under such circumstances cannot be taken secretly or in a hurried manner. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್ , ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 10 (ಐಎಎನ್‌ಎಸ್): ಕೋವಿಡ್ -19 ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗದ ನಡುಟು ಜನಕುಲು ಅಕ್ಲೆನ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯನ್ ತೂವೊನೊಡು ಪಂದ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಚಿವೆ ಕೆ.ಸುಧಾಕರ್ ಪಂಡೆರ್. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಅಕ್ಲೆನ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಲೆಡ್ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಕೊರ್ಪಿನಂಚಿನ ಮಾತಾ ಕ್ರಮೊಕುಲೆನ್ ಪಾಲನೆ ಮಲ್ಪೊಡು ಪಂದ್ ಪಂತೆರ್. “ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ದೈಹಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದಾತ್ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದುಂಡು , ವಿಶೇಷವಾದ್ ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗ ಉಪ್ಪುನಂಚಿನ ಸಮಯೊಡು .” ಪಂದ್ ಸುಧಾಕರ್ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆದ ಪೊರ್ತುಡು ಪಾತೆರ ಡ್ ಪಂತೆರ್. “ನಮ್ಮ ವೈದ್ಯೆರ್ನಕುಲು ಬೊಕ್ಕ ದಾದಿಲು ಸೋಂಕುಗು ಮರ್ದ್ ಕೊರ್ಪಿನೆತ್ತ ಒಟ್ಟುಗು ರೋಗಿನಕ್ಲೆನ ಮನೋಸ್ಥೈರ್ಯ ನ್ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಮಲ್ತೊಂದುಲ್ಲೆರ್ , ಟೋಲ್ ಫ್ರೀ ನಂಬರ್ (104) ನೆತ್ತ ಮುಖೇನ ಇನಿ ನಡಪುನಂಚಿನ ಈ  ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆದ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ನ್ ದೆತೊನೊಡು ಪಂದ್ ಜನಕ್ಲೆಡ ಮನವಿ ಮಲ್ದೆರ್. “ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಯೋಗ, ಪ್ರಾಣಾಯಾಮ (ಉಸಿರಾಟ) ಬೊಕ್ಕ ಧ್ಯಾನ (ಧ್ಯಾನ) ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಲ್ಪುಲೇ ಪಂದ್ ಪಂತೆರ್ . ಈ ವೈರಸ್‌ಗ್ ಮರ್ದ್ ಕೊರ್ರೆ ಲಸಿಕೆ ತಡ ಆವು ಪಂದ್ ಸುಳಿವು ಕೊರಿನ ಸಚಿವೆರ್ , ಜನಕುಲು ಮುಖವಾಡ ಪಾಡೊಡು , ಸ್ಯಾನಿಟೈಸರ್‌ ಪಾರ್ದ್ ಕೈ ದೆಕ್ಕೊಡು ಬೊಕ್ಕ ರೋಗದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪಣೆಯೆರೆ ದೈಹಿಕ ಅಂತರನ್ ಕಾಪೊಡು ಇಂಚಿತ್ತಿನ ಕ್ರಮೊಕುಲೆನ್ ನಾನಾತ್ ದೆತೊನೊಡು ಪಂದ್ ಪಂತೆರ್್.

Karnataka minister stresses on mental health amid COVID scare

Bengaluru, Oct 10 (IANS): Exhorting the people to take care of their mental health amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Karnataka Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar on Friday advised the affected to seek counselling provided by the state government at its hospitals across the southern state.”Stressing on a sound mind during the pandemic, Sudhakar, a medical doctor by occupation, said there was a need for greater awareness of mental health for fighting coronavirus to prevent suicide, madness and stress arising out of depression.”As per WHO reports, 7.5 per cent of the people across the country are victims of mental depression. India accounts for 15 per cent of global mental illness. As per a survey, 20 per cent of Indians will suffer mental illness by this year-end. Hence mental health is equally important,” Sudhakar said.

“Though our doctors and nurses are boosting the morale of the patients besides treating them for the infection, I urge the people to use our counselling facility even through the toll-free number (104) and stay fit mentally and physically,” said the minister.On the hardships the people are facing due to the virus spread since mid-March, Sudhakar lamented that many people had lost their jobs and were facing an economic crisis.Allaying fears of the pandemic spread, Sudhakar said over 5.5-lakh COVID patients have recovered from the infection in the state since mid-March.”Practice yoga, pranayama (breathing) and dhyana (meditation) daily. Exercise regularly and boost the morale of the family members and friends during these hard times. No cause for panic,” asserted Sudhakar.
