Mangalore: Air India Express’s refusal to export cold fish to Gulf countries has hit the coastal fisheries industry.

The airline was reported to have stopped the export of fish a few years ago after some erroneous incidents affecting other cargo and passenger luggage.

Exporters now have to transport fish in trucks from Mangalore to Goa, Bangalore and Kozhikode airports, where Air India and other Gulf-based airlines are shipping goods. This has an impact on shipping costs and fish quality.
