SHIVAMOGGA: Former Deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa, who threatened to contest the Lok Sabha elections as a BJP rebel, filed a caveat in a local court stating he should not be stopped from using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photos in his electioneering.

He expressed apprehensions that BJP functionaries might try to stop from using the prime minister’s images. “I guess the BJP candidate is trying to get a stay on using Modi’s photo and I have filed the caveat to prevent such circumstances,” he said in Sagar.

“Modi is our leader,” he said. BJP nominee and former CM BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra has accused Eshwarappa of creating confusion among voters and misusing Hindutva for his personal gains. Eshwarappa, whose son was not considered for the party ticket for the neighbouring Haveri constituency, rebelled against the state BJP alleging Yediyurappa promoted the interests of only his family members and other close associates.

’10 years like appetizer’: Prime Minister Modi says ‘main course’ to unveil in 3rd term

PM Modi tore into the INDIA bloc over corruption cases that were reported during the Congress-led UPA government

Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Churu, PM Modi said the developmental work carried out by him in the past 10 years is just like an “appetizer” and that the “main course is yet to come”.

“I want to tell you that all we’ve done till now is just a trailer. These days, when we go to big hotels to eat food, they first bring a few appetizers…so what Modi has done (till now) is an appetizer. The main course is yet to come. We have to take the country forward,” the Prime Minister said. Highlighting the Centre’s decision to execute air strikes and surgical strikes, PM Modi said before his government came to power, security forces were held back from taking decisive action in the interest of national security.

“When I came to Churu on 26th February 2019, at that time the country had carried out an air strike in Balakot. We had taught a lesson to the terrorists. At that time I had said I would not let Mother India bow down,” said the Prime Minister.
He said even enemies know that it’s “New India,” which would enter its territory to retaliate (“Aaj dushman ko bhi pata hai yeh Modi hain, yeh naya Bharat hai, yeh naya Bharat ghar mein ghus kar maarta hain”).

PM Modi slammed the Congress and its allies for seeking proof of Balakot air strikes.

“When our army carried out surgical strikes and air strikes, Congress and the people of this ‘Ghamandia’ alliance were asking for proof. Dividing the country and insulting our army is the identity of the Congress Party,” he added. Hitting out at the opposition’s Ramlila rally in Delhi, he said INDIA bloc leaders are not campaigning for the upcoming elections but against the crackdown on corruption.

PM Modi also claimed that Congress and the INDIA bloc have their “own interests” and that they have nothing to do with the welfare of the poor, Dalit, and underprivileged.

The Prime Minister reiterated his “guarantee” poll plank and recounted his welfare schemes and how they have been beneficial for the poor and women.

“Rajasthan is an example of how Modi’s guarantees have been fulfilled. I had given the guarantee to my mothers and sisters that gas cylinders under the Ujjwala Yojana would be made cheaper and I fulfilled this guarantee. I had guaranteed the youth that an investigation would be conducted against the Congress (exam) paper leak industry. This guarantee has also been fulfilled,” the PM said. PM took a dig at Congress claiming that the grand old party has advised its units to remain mum on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir issue.

“I came to know that Congress has issued an advisory and asked all its units to remain silent on the issue of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. ‘Unko lagne laga hai ki agar Ram ka naam liya pata nahi kab Ram-Ram ho jaye’ (they (Congress) think taking Lord Ram’s name would decimate them),” said the PM.

Addressing an election rally in Jamui on Thursday, Modi refrained from mentioning Pakistan by name, but said that under the BJP-led NDA government, “India has started hitting back, reviving the ancient glory of the Magadha empire”.

The PM also took an indirect jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party, which has struck an alliance with the Congress in Delhi. “All these people who used to accuse each other of corruption have now come together to hurl abuses at Modi,” he said.

“Our ally Nitish babu (Bihar CM) was also the railway minister. What an unblemished record he had,” he said.

“It seems the people of Bihar have decided to help the NDA win all 40 seats in the state, and achieve the 400-plus target in the country.” Prime minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress

In a post on ‘X’, PM Modi said, “Rhetoric aside, DMK has done NOTHING to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s interests. New details emerging on #Katchatheevu have UNMASKED the DMK’s double standards totally. Congress and DMK are family units. They only care that their own sons and daughters rise. They don’t care for anyone else. Their callousness on Katchatheevu has harmed the interests of our poor fishermen and fisherwomen in particular.”

The PM was responding to a media report based on an RTI reply of the Ministry of External Affairs to the Tamil Nadu BJP President, K.Annamalai.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said the Government of India under the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had ceded the Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka in 1974.

In the reply to the RTI query, the MEA had responded that the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had written that “the island was inconsequential” and that “there was no reason in continuing with this”.

The document procured by Annamalai and in public domain clearly states that the then Attorney General and one of the best legal brains of the country during those days, M.C. Setalvad had advised that India had a good legal case in the Katchatheevu island as this island’s rights were handed over by the East India company to the then Ramanad (Ramanathapuram) king.

The fishermen of Tamil Nadu have been facing a tough situation with the Sri Lankan Navy arresting Indian fishermen and impounding their costly mechanised boats. Since 2024 January more than 125 Tamil fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and there has been growing resentment among the fishermen and their families.

Fishermen families are on strike in Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and many other fishing hamlets of Tamil Nadu against the arrests and impounding of costly boats.
