The FIR was lodged based on complaints lodged by an advocate at Durgapur court and another person, the official said. The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 509 (using words intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

According to the English translation of Ghosh’s remarks, as provided by the EC in its notice, he had said: “When Didi goes to Goa, she becomes Goa’s daughter, in Tripura, she says I am Tripura’s daughter; decide who is your father, this is not right”.

The poll panel deemed the comments offensive, insulting, and prima facie a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Denouncing the remarks, the BJP in a communication to Ghosh, who has been fielded from the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, said the comments were “unparliamentary” and against the culture of the party.

He expressed regret for his remarks on Wednesday, acknowledging that both his party and the general public had reservations about his choice of words. “If it is so, I am sorry for that,” Ghosh, known for making controversial remarks, said.

“Pralhad Joshi had no role in it,” he said.

He said that under no circumstances would Joshi’s ticket be replaced.

Lingayat seer Dingaleshwar Swamiji has alleged that Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was behind the party’s move to ask Yediyurappa to step down from the post of Chief Minister in 20

Yediyurappa emphasised that there is no dissent in Karnataka BJP. “There were differences of opinion in Davanagere. I have gone there and resolved the issue. There was opposition to former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, BJP’s candidate for Belagavi, but now it has been quelled,” he said.

Yediyurappa also responded to former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa’s declaration that he would contest as an independent candidate against the BJP in Shivamogga. “I am in discussion with him, and everything will be alright soon,” he said.

He also acknowledged former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda as a significant force. “He will come for the election campaigning with us, and we will benefit from this. The Congress is a sinking ship. No one will wish to board that ship. If someone is still joining the Congress, I wish them luck,” he said.

Yediyurappa added that the BJP tickets have been finalised for all other seats. “There is an anti-Congress wave in the state, and BJP will win all 28 MP seats,” he also said.
